Introduction

Welcome to my blog my name is James Hyland, for this project I shall be discussing two topics that I find interesting; the first of these topics is, Dinosaurs and the second topic is an art style Japanese prints. I shall start this blog by talking about the how these topics are presently portraied in the media, then move on to how they got their by talking about the past and finally i will look to see where thier futures lie and discuss where i think each topic shall end up in the years to come. I shall also discuss the possibilty of a IP using these two topics

I have chosen to talk about dinosaurs because I have been interested in them from a young age and find them fascinating so I shall enjoy talking about them, how they affect us now and how they will continue to affect us.

This is an example of a pair of dinosaurs hunting and was uploaded in 2009

I have recently become interested in Japanese prints as I have been following a few artists and looking into their influences and all have ended up upon Japanese prints, so it shall be very interesting discussing how it began and how it will continue to be used.

This image is an iconic example of Japanese print called 'The Great Wave' by artists Fugaku Sanjuokkei between 1830 and 1833

  1. As they are both very generic topics you will need to make sure your research is diverse and has depth with plenty of critical comment and your own thoughts expressed and justified, to keep your blog fresh and original.
I am concerned that your choice of topic is so common to games that you will end up with a very unoriginal Ip.
I would strongly advise changing one of these topics to something that's more diverse and is a stark contrast in subject area to the other one. Don't use images from games to illustrate your comment. The idea of this research project is to explore and get inspiration from a variety of diverse areas OTHER than games so that the end result is more innovative and not a cliche.

  2. I love these topics: Japanese Prints and Dinosaurs. They should lead to some really interesting research.

You've done a lot of work to get to these subjects. I would suggest you document your progress rather than just delete your previous ideas. It is all part of your research and shows what you have been working on.

  3. Obviously you have made some new choices of topic since your initial research. It would be good to show some indication of this in your blog to see how your work has developed over the last few weeks.
One important point, start with the present and then do some back casting into the past, to see where these things have come from. That's the usual formula for futures research.
One thing to be aware of is to source examples of how 'Dinosaurs' and 'Japanese prints' have repeatedly appeared in various forms of media across the years, which would justify your choice as having cultural popularity.
You're aiming to explore a diverse range of media that will cultivate innovation.
You need to show, films, books , magazines, theatrical performance, music etc. that have used these sort of themes.
Also include at least one image on your blog with each example that has a link to the source.

For your research you need to explore a diverse variety of ways that your chosen themes have been represented in the media, starting in the present and then over time.
Also look at Google scholar and in educational and academic journals and papers to read and quote any academic research on these themes.

  4. Two very different topics. It will be interesting to see where you go with this. You could mention religion when talking about dinosaurs (some religions don't recognize science and the existance of dinosaurs for instance). You could also research as to why Japanese prints are so popular, does everyone recognize Japanese prints as art? You need to do more research but it's a good start so far.

  5. It would be a good idea to go over all your text adding any thoughts you have and instead of just having written links you should be attaching all the links to images to lead to the source of your info.
Also, just name of author and date in brackets needed in body of blog and all your written links should appear in the bibliography instead of the blog text in Harvard referencing format.
